The new chief of the San Francisco Police Department, George Gascon, wants to make it illegal to sit or lie on a public sidewalk and wants to arm the city's police officers with tasers.

We'll speak with SF Police Commissioner, VINCENT PAN, about the safety of the tasers and whether or not we can trust an SFPD armed these allegedly "non lethal" weapons.

We'll also speak with BOB OFFER-WESTORT from the Coalition on Homelessness about Gascon's proposed "Sit / Lie" law that would make it illegal to sit or lie on a public sidewalk. Who is this law really targeting and why? Is this just another Care-not-Cash-like wedge issue designed to hurt progressive Supervisoral candidates in swing districts this fall?

We'll also talk with some members of YOUNG WORKERS UNITED who have just released their "Dining with Justice 2010: A Guide to Guilt Free Eating." Hear who made it this brilliant booklet of "socially responsible restaurants that follow labor laws and treat their employees with dignity and respect."

The Western Cape Anti-Eviction Campaign has been fighting since 2000 on the frontlines of the struggle for the right to the city in postapartheid, neoliberal South Africa. The AEC is a grassroots coordinating body for over 15 community organizations fighting against displacement, privatization, poverty and police brutality, organized from below by and for the poor people of the Western Cape province.

But we don't just love Stephen for his brilliant stories, he also cares deeply about the same San Francisco as we do, and he's lent his time and exceptional talents (and convinced friends of his such as Amy Tan and Dave Eggers to do the same) to support such just causes as the Gonzalez for Mayor campaign, the defeat of last year's evil Prop 98 which would have abolished rent control, and keeping that damn American Apparel store out of the Mark Sanchez campaign headquarters.

SECOND HOUR: All-Star Earthquake extravaganza - Featuring interviews with former Mayor Art Agnos and other SF politicos. Dance Mission Founder Krissy Keefer joins us in the studio.

We've pre-recorded an in-depth interview with Mayor Agnos covering the drama of 10/17/89, the immediate aftermath, and the political ramifications--including the fight to tear down the Embarcadero Freeway and how the earthquake affected the most vulnerable San Franciscans. 1000 low-income housing units were lost in the earthquake, and Mayor Agnos showed some serious compassion and cojones by allowing the displaced to camp out in Civic Center until replacement housing was available.

We'll also hear the earthquake stories from various members of the League of Pissed Off Voters and Pirate Cat Radio DJs.

Matt Gonzalez will join us for most of the show. Gonzalez is the former president of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors who narrowly lost to Gavin Newsom in the 2003 campaign for Mayor--despite being a member of the minority Green Party and being vastly outspent. In 2008, Gonzalez ran for Vice President as Ralph Nader's running mate.

We'll talk to him about his past campaigns, his plans for the future, and his thoughts on the current state of the City. We're also hoping that Matt will bring some music to play for us, and that he'll stick around for some lighter banter with the Charm School show at 8 p.m.

First Hour: SF Public Defender Jeff Adachi - Jeff Adachi is currently fighting budget cuts proposed by Mayor Newsom that Adachi says would destroy his office's ability to provide adequate representation to their clients. Meanwhile, the Constitution Project, a bi-partisan commission, has issued a report on the poor state of indigent defense in this country. There has been a lot of interest both nationally and locally in how the criminal justice system may be affected by budget cuts to defender offices. Jeff will be discussing these issues and will tell us all about next week's Justice Summit that his office is hosting here in SF.

Second Hour: Educators for a Democratic Union - We'll be joined by Adrienne Johnstone and Darlene Anaya, two members of the EDU, a progressive reform-minded slate of candidates running for leadership of the United Educators - San Francisco. They'll tell us all about the changes they would bring as leaders of the SF teachers' union.

It's a love story of bikes and one-night stands told through two African-American twenty-somethings dealing with issues of class, identity, and the evolving conundrum of being a minority in rapidly gentrifying San Francisco—a city with the smallest proportional black population of any other major American city.

2nd hour: Can Legalization Save California? - Assemblyman Tom Ammiano is introducing a first-of-its-kind marijuana legalization bill that could generate billions of dollars of revenue for the State coffers, cut down on thousands of arrests, and drastically reduce drug traffic related violence. 6 pm: PowerShift Report Back - Last weekend, the SF League joined 12,000 young people in D.C. at PowerShift 09, a conference on clean energy and green jobs, culminating in 350 meetings with our representatives in congress, and a protest that shutdown the coal-fired power plant that powers the Capitol. We were joined by a bunch of folks from the League and Green for All.
Here's what we learned from lobbying our SF representatives and CA senators:
- Speaker Pelosi: We had a positive meeting with her chief of staff who said that our pressure made it easier to push for stronger legislation. She's hopeful that Pelosi will be able to make it to our climate townhall meeting in April.
- Congresswoman Speier: Her climate policy staffer said Speier supports our platform and will push for strong climate legislation.
- Senator Boxer: Her climate policy guy basically lectured at us. Boxer won't push for an outright ban on coal or nuclear plants, and it sounds like she wants to put most of the money from a carbon cap into tax cuts instead of green jobs for disadvantaged communities.
- Senator Feinsten: Her staff strung us along all day and ultimately wouldn't meet with 100 young people from California. Really, Diane? Friggin Oren Hatch met with PowerShift, and you wouldn't? Once again, you're our Asshole of the Week.

7 pm: Our Sanctuary City - Immigrant rights, ICE raids, and racial profiling. Why isn't San Francisco living up to it's sanctuary city status and what needs to be done about it? Our guests included:
- Bobbi Lopez and others from the San Francisco Immigrant Rights Defense Committee
- Several members of Young Workers United
- Supervisor John Avalos called in to tell us about his work on legislation to make it City policy that the police shouldn't turn over youth charged with felonies to ICE.
